Andy Warhol

Andy Warhol, the pop art maestro with the signature silver wig, was a study in contradictions. He celebrated the mass-produced, famously painting Campbell's soup cans because he claimed to have had the same lunch for 20 years. A shy, devout Catholic, he hosted the wildest parties at his silver-foil-covered studio, "The Factory." Rumor has it he was a virgin, a claim as dubious as some of the "superstars" he championed. He collected everything from cookie jars to celebrity memorabilia, sealing them in over 600 "time capsules." He once quipped, "Art is anything you can get away with," and he certainly did, turning everyday objects into high art and becoming as iconic as his creations. Though he cultivated an aura of detached coolness, he was also a shrewd businessman who believed that "good business is the best art."
